Mission and Evangelization
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations” (Mt. 28/19) was the mandate given by Jesus to his disciples. We take up missionary activities with a zeal to share the Eucharistic love we have experienced with our fellowmen who are yet to come to this fountain of love.
Our sisters stepped out of Kerala, for the first time in 1965 and started their missionary activities in the northeastern part of the country. Despite the various hardships they had to face, the pioneering missionaries took up the challenge with courage and enthusiasm, and today our missionary endeavors are spread in almost all the states of India. Our presence and ministries in the fields of education, healing, social apostolate, village development schemes, etc., have brought about visible changes in the lives of many downtrodden brethren. Preferential option for the poor remains our motto as we try to reach out to the varied sections of society.
Apart from our houses in almost all the states of India, our sisters have been engaged in very committed missionary activities in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, U.S.A, and Nepal. In recent years we have further extended our evangelical efforts to the South American countries of Brazil, Equador, and Peru, focussing our attention primarily on direct evangelization and parish ministry, remaining open to the various needs of the local society. The only province we have outside India is in East Africa, namely Zion province, with its mother house in Nairobi, Kenya. The dedicated and selfless services of our sisters in Africa and Nepal are amply rewarded in the providential gift of the good number of vocations from these countries. And our services in the mission areas are rendered in old age homes, orphanages, hospitals, and mobile clinics, AIDS rehabilitation centres, schools for the deaf and dumb, street children, and the physically and mentally challenged.
In all our missionary activities, we aim at the holistic development of the people we encounter, i.e., their spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional well-being, irrespective of caste or creed.
