Inspired by

Venerable Mar Thomas Kurialacherry

Venerable Mar Thomas Kurialacherry (1873-1925) was a remarkable spiritual leader, social reformer, and the revered founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS). Born in Champakulam, Kerala, he grew up with a deep love for the Holy Eucharist and a strong sense of service to the Church. After completing his priestly formation, he served the faithful with exceptional pastoral dedication and later became the first indigenous Bishop of the Changanassery Diocese. Moved by an intense desire to promote Eucharistic devotion, he founded the Adoration Congregation in 1908, with the mission of perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament combined with active service to society. His vision shaped a congregation that blends prayer, contemplation, and compassionate outreach, especially toward the poor, the sick, and the marginalized. Mar Kurialacherry was also far ahead of his time in championing women's education and empowerment. He established several schools and training institutions, believing that educating women was essential for the progress of families and society. His pastoral work was marked by kindness, simplicity, and a heart open to all, irrespective of ...

Our Community

Flames of Adoration and the Hands of Service

"How good pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity". (Ps. 133:1)

The Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS) form a vibrant, deeply dedicated religious community rooted in a profound Eucharistic spirituality and committed to loving, transformative service. Inspired by the prophetic vision and apostolic zeal of our Venerable Founder, Mar Thomas Kurialacherry, along with the heroic resilience of our Co-Foundress, Mother Mary Francesca de Chantal, our community was raised up to radiate the healing and saving love of Jesus truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Perpetual adoration is the very heartbeat of our daily life; it is the sacred wellspring that continually nourishes our mission, sustains our common life, and shapes our distinct identity as servants of the altar.

As a true family in Christ, we strive to foster an interior atmosphere of deep prayer, fraternal unity, contagious joy, and evangelical simplicity. In this nurturing environment, each sister is encouraged to grow in personal holiness while freely contributing her unique, God-given gifts for the building up of the Church and the elevation of society. Our convents are designed to be sanctuaries of peace, reflection, and spiritual refuge, balancing a life of contemplative silence with active apostolic engagement. Guided step-by-step by the Eucharistic Lord, we willingly dedicate ourselves to a wide array of vital ministries—including transformative education, compassionate healthcare, uplifting social services, hands-on pastoral work, and the holistic empowerment of marginalized women and children—ensuring that our adoration before the tabernacle overflows as a living blessing to the world.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Co-Foundress and First Member of the Adoration Congregation

Mother Mary Francesca de Chantal SABS, the Co-Foundress and first member of the Adoration Congregation, was a woman of deep faith, humility, and unwavering devotion to the Holy Eucharist. Inspired by the vision of Venerable Mar Thomas Kurialacherry, she played a vital role in shaping the early life of the SABS congregation through her prayerfulness, dedication, and spirit of sacrifice. Her wholehearted commitment helped lay the strong spiritual foundation on which the community continues to grow. Born in Champakulam on December 23, 1880, to Mathew and Mariamma, Philomina Vallayil felt a powerful spiritual inclination from a very young age. Motivated by a profound desire to love God and assist those in need, she committed herself to never bringing g...

Our Convents

Sacred spaces of prayer and service

Across our province, our 54 convents serve as vibrant powerhouses of prayer and spiritual renewal, standing as true sanctuaries of peace and reflection. At the centre of each convent is the Eucharistic throne, where our sisters gather faithfully in perpetual adoration to draw grace and strength from the Blessed Sacrament. This deep interior life of contemplation fosters an atmosphere of profound unity, joy, and simplicity among the sisters, allowing each community to become a luminous sign of Christ's transforming love. These sacred spaces are not only homes of shared community life and sisterhood, but also spiritual lighthouses that offer solace, hope, and intercessory prayer for the entire local neighbourhood and the wider Church.
Flowing directly from this intense life of prayer, our 54 convents also serve as active centres for dynamic apostolic engagement and compassionate outreach. Guided by the Eucharistic Lord, each community reaches out beyond its chapel walls to meet the urgent needs of society through diverse and impactful ministries. From these convents, our sisters step forth daily to dedicate themselves to formal education, compassionate healthcare, social service, pastoral work, and the targeted empowerment of women and children. By beautifully balancing a deep interior life with zealous external mission, our convents act as vital hubs of grace, transforming lives and quietly carrying the healing and liberating presence of Jesus into the heart of the world.
Rooted in our rich spiritual heritage, these 54 convents stand as a living testament to the enduring vision of our Venerable Founder, Mar Thomas Kurialacherry, and the heroic resilience of our Co-Foundress, Mother Mary Francesca de Chantal. Just as Mother Chantal efficiently managed our very first convents and schools with unwavering devotion, each of our current communities embraces the same spirit of joyful sacrifice and radical fidelity. In an increasingly fragmented world, our convents remain steadfast in their sacred calling: to be places where the Eucharistic Lord is continuously adored, where sisterly love is genuinely lived, and where the flame of Christ's compassion is carried directly to the poor and marginalized.

Words from the

Provincial Superior

Rev. Sr Mareena Njarakkattil

"Praise be to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus"My dear sisters, As we look upon the sacred journey of our Adoration Congregation, we are called to anchor our lives deeply in the dual spiritual legacy left to us by our Venerable Founder, Mar Thomas Kurialacherry, and our beloved Co-Foundress, Mother Mary Francesca de Chantal. From his earliest days in Champakulam to his transformative years in Rome, Mar Thomas carried an unquenchable fire—an inner calling to make the Eucharistic Lord known, loved, and adored by all, always and everywhere. This same Eucharistic flame burned brightly in the heart of Mother Chantal, who, despite early family pressures and personal loss, maintained a silent, unyielding desire to dedicate herself entirely to God. Their providential meeting at Kalloorkatt Church was not a mere coincidence, but a divine appointment that set our congregation into motion on Decemb...
